Cheese!

Lately this is what I get when I ask her to smile: a whole lot of silliness!

Big News!

No, not the baby....

I've been Nominated!

I have been nomitated for best party entertainer in New York City. That's totally HUGE! I'm only 1 of 7 that were nominated. Do you know how many party entertainers there are in NYC?! Ummm...tons!

I was nominated because I have a link on this site where parents can rate and review my parties and all of them have LOVED the parties! A good chunk of my business comes from this website, so it's a big deal.

Click on the logo below! Vote for Science Explorers! Come back everyday and vote again (until July 15).

Brian's Five Borough Bike Tour

Brian and his brother, Spencer, signed up to do the 42 mile, 5 Borough Bike Tour last Sunday. I'm so impressed that they did it! It's not only a long bike ride, but it rained, and rained, and rained. If any of you have ever ridden a bike in the rain, it's no fun. Talk about grueling!

I must confess I plan on doing the ride next year, as long as the weather is agreeable. I love riding my bike--except on busy NYC streets! I can chalk it up there with the very amazing, very fun, very grueling bike ride we did 5 years ago. We rode 300 miles (in 6 days, on old rail and canal paths) from Pittsburgh, PA to Washington D.C. We use to be so crazy like that! Now we are crazy parents...a very different, very fun adventure!

A Flash of Flavor!

Lately Isabella has been trying new foods. Last week we stopped into one of our favorite Vietnamese restaurants near Union Square (sorry, can't remember the name right now) and ordered her a plain rice, as usual. She took two bites of rice, grabbed Brian's curry noodle soup and finished it off. I was so surprised and impressed. And this silly nonsense, of trying foods, keeps happening! Yesterday she ate half my sandwich full of spicy meats. Who is this child?!

Harlem Garden

There was dirt all over the floor and under our fingernails. It was a perfect spring activity. I love my little helper. She's begun identifying herbs...well, at least rosemary.

Parsley, rosemary, lavender, oregano, and thyme.

Bella's New Bed

Everyone loves Isabella's new bed!
This happens every time friends come to visit.

**Thank you Heather! We love it!**

Cotton Hollow

Last week was crazy-busy (tons of parties!) so this is my first opportunity, in over a week, to post about our last trip Connecticut. (Which was also our last trip until after baby boy makes his debut! Yikes, it's getting close!) The weather was absolutely fabulous and was a nice, needed break from the cold, rainy spring weather we seem plagued with this season.

All photos below are taken on our hike in Cotton Hollow, which is about a 5 minute drive from Brian's family's house. So beautiful, so fun!

Isabella figured out how to put the window down.
She loved letting the wind blow in her hair.

Tenth Avenue Tacos

Some of the best, most authentic tacos (I should know because I'm from California, right?) can be found in a back window inside a tiny Mexican grocery store on 10th Ave (between 47th & 48th Sts) in Hell's Kitchen. I don't think I would have ever found it if one of my neighbors hadn't told me about it when I live around the corner for two years. If you can find it, give it a try. It is, literally, a hole in the wall. Super cheap ($2/taco), super delicious (most people love the pork, but my fav is the chicken). Tehuitzingo Deli & Grocery.

Greenmarket

I've said this before and I'm sure I'll say it again, but I LOVE the Union Square Greenmarket. Summer is coming with all its delicious, wonderful produce!

Monumental

This may not seem like much to you, but her hair is clean...washed...and she's still happily playing in the bath. It may not happen again this year, but today it did. Bath time is a constant battle often remedied with a "sponge bath". But if I am able to persuade her to get into the water she quickly remembers baths can be quite fun.

Washing the hair is another story, probably our biggest challenge at the time; one that I don't understand. (Willfulness and tantrums I at least understand, usually.) Terrifying screams, heartbreaking cries, and frantically clawing her way out of the tub are always the consequence as I begin to clean her locks. Concerned for her physical and psychological well being I am learning to let go. Which means she will sometimes go months without a hair wash.

Today was good. Calm and gentle. Only a few complaints.

She stayed in the tub a good half hour after the cleaning was complete...an all-time record! I guess today was productive; very productive now that I think about it.

Thrown Together

Today I was going to be productive. Get stuff done. Check off my to-do list. I felt the nesting instinct pumping in my blood.

Isabella decided no nap today. I prayed for patience. I was very blessed with patience which meant productivity was nonexistent. It wasn't until she was fast asleep at 8pm that I realized I had not eaten since lunchtime. All of a sudden I felt famished and lightheaded. The fridge was surprisingly empty, the cereal boxes weren't even appealing. I was so hungry I felt sick.

Fortunately patience was still attending me. I whipped up a quick batch of pesto, sliced a tomato, and remembered I had fresh bread. I'm feeling much better.

Bubbles & Blossoms

Last Friday was so incredibly beautiful! We spent the morning blowing bubbles and hanging out with good friends in the Sheep Meadow in Central Park.
