Rent in Manhattan is quite different from what we were paying in Pittsburgh. In Pittsburgh we rented a little studio with our own yard for $300/month. Here we are renting a small 1 bedroom for $1,650/month. Luckily I worked hard to find this place and did not have to pay a broker. If we would have used a broker (as most people do when looking for a place to live here) we would have had to pay $3,000 up front for this type of apartment.

When I grow up, I want to be a broker!
